Election Commission Cleans Up Uttarakhand Party Registry, Removes 17 Unrecognised Parties

In a significant clean-up of electoral records, the Election Commission (EC) has removed 17 unrecognised political parties from the list of registered political parties in Uttarakhand, according to official sources.

Sources in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Uttarakhand, said the decision followed a review of the functioning and status of registered but unrecognised parties across the state. The action primarily targeted organisations that had failed to contest any Lok Sabha or Assembly election after 2019 and whose registered office addresses could not be verified during physical inspections.

Officials said the verification exercise was aimed at ensuring that only active and traceable political organisations continue to remain on the Election Commission's rolls, thereby improving the accuracy and credibility of electoral records.

Among the parties removed are Bharat Qaumi Dal, Bharat Parivar Party, Bharatiya Samrat Subhash Sena, Peoples Party, Bharatiya Mool Nivasi Samaj Party, Bharatiya Antyodaya Party, Bharatiya Gram Nagar Vikas Party, Gorkha Democratic Front, Prajatantra Party of India, Suraj Seva Dal, and Uttarakhand Janshakti Party.

The Commission had also earlier removed six other registered parties from the state's electoral records. These include Bharatiya Jankranti Party, Bharatiya Janmanch Party, Maidani Kranti Dal, Prajamandal Party, Rashtriya Gram Vikas Party, and Rashtriya Jansahay Dal.

The latest move reflects the poll body's continuing efforts to maintain an updated and transparent database of registered political parties. Election authorities periodically review the status of recognised and unrecognised parties to identify inactive entities and verify compliance with registration requirements.

Officials indicated that such verification exercises help strengthen the integrity of the electoral system by ensuring that the official registry accurately reflects parties that remain operational and capable of participating in the democratic process. The exercise is also expected to enhance administrative efficiency in managing election-related records and communications across the state.
