Electric RTC Bus Gutted In Fire Near Karimnagar As All 37 Passengers Safe
A major mishap was averted on Sunday after an electric bus operated by the state-run road transport corporation caught fire near Thimmapur mandal in Karimnagar district, leading to the complete destruction of the vehicle but causing no injuries.
The bus, belonging to the Karimnagar-2 depot and operating on the Karimnagar–Hyderabad route, reportedly developed a technical snag while passing close to the LMD area in Thimmapur mandal. Moments later, flames began to spread inside the vehicle.
In a swift and decisive response, the driver brought the bus to a halt on the roadside after noticing the problem. Along with the conductor, he immediately evacuated all 37 passengers , ensuring everyone was moved to safety just in time. Within minutes of the evacuation, the fire intensified and quickly engulfed the entire bus.
Firefighters rushed to the spot and attempted to douse the blaze, but the vehicle was already fully engulfed and was completely gutted before the flames could be brought under control.
Officials confirmed that there were no casualties or injuries , bringing relief to passengers and authorities alike. However, the incident triggered panic among travellers and locals in the area.
A video recorded at the scene later surfaced on social media, in which a passenger emotionally credited the driver’s quick thinking for saving all lives, saying the situation could have turned catastrophic without his timely action.
Authorities from the road transport corporation, along with local police, have initiated an inquiry into the incident. Preliminary checks suggest a possible battery-related short circuit or other technical failure , though the exact cause is yet to be confirmed.
