'Epic First Semester' Puts Vaishnavi Chaitanya In Another Bold Role

Vaishnavi Chaitanya is gearing up for the release of 'Epic First Semester', which reunites her with Anand Deverakonda after 'Baby'. Directed by Aditya Hasan, the film is set to hit theatres on September 11 and has already created curiosity around Vaishnavi’s character Kadali and its live-in relationship storyline.

Director Aditya Hasan recently revealed that Vaishnavi was initially concerned about performing bold scenes in the film. At the pre-release event, he said he had promised to stand by her and take responsibility if she faced backlash after the release. The statement has drawn attention given the criticism Vaishnavi faced after 'Baby'.

However, Vaishnavi has offered a different perspective on Kadali. She describes her as a strong girl who has clarity in life and stands up for herself. The actress said there is a Kadali in everyone, but family and society often suppress that side. She added that playing the character taught her to believe in herself and become more confident.

'Epic First Semester' follows two young people who go to the UK for higher studies, meet there and eventually start living together. Their private conversations, different perspectives on life and the responsibilities they face form the core of the story. Vaishnavi has also assured audiences that families can watch the film, saying the live-in relationship is handled with restraint and without unnecessary uncomfortable scenes.

Anand has clarified that the film does not feature grey shaded characters or conventional villains. He calls it a realistic new age love story that explores love, career, family and personal responsibilities. He also said Kadali represents women who may appear happy outside while dealing with fears, responsibilities and struggles internally.

The 'Baby' comparison remains unavoidable, but both actors insist the two films are completely different. Vaishnavi said they treated 'Epic' as a challenge and would consider it a success if audiences watched it without constantly thinking about 'Baby'.

Meanwhile, promotions have gained momentum, with Vijay Deverakonda joining Anand and Vaishnavi for a viral performance of 'Sancharame'. Rashmika Mandanna has also publicly backed the film and praised Aditya Hasan.

Interestingly, a sequel titled 'Final Semester' is also being planned, although Vaishnavi said Aditya Hasan is yet to narrate the complete story to her.
