Farmers’ welfare is the foundation of India’s economic progress, and a prosperous farming community is essential for strengthening the rural economy, BJP leader and MP Daggubati Purandeswari said.

Speaking at a felicitation meeting organised by the Indravathi Telugu Farmers’ Association and Telugu farmers from Odisha’s Kalahandi district in the Anaparthi Assembly constituency, she highlighted agriculture’s contribution to food security and the country’s overall economic development.

Purandeswari said farmers remained the backbone of the rural economy, supplying food to millions while supporting livelihoods across the country. She noted that farmers cultivated different crops depending on local climatic conditions, soil characteristics and water availability, contributing significantly to national food security.

She said the Centre was implementing several initiatives to support farmers, improve market access and protect them against agricultural risks. These included e-NAM, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.

Emphasising the need for sustained agricultural development, she said farmers required reliable support, remunerative prices for their produce, sustainable irrigation facilities and measures to preserve soil fertility. She called for collective efforts to improve farmers’ livelihoods and strengthen the rural economy.

Referring to the problems faced by Telugu farmers cultivating paddy in Odisha, Purandeswari said Anaparthi MLA Ramakrishna Reddy had brought their difficulties concerning paddy procurement to her attention. She said she had promptly contacted officials from the concerned departments and worked towards resolving the issues.

She reiterated that improving farmers’ welfare was crucial to achieving inclusive national development.

Meanwhile, Purandeswari inaugurated the BJP flag at Tadigadapa in Krishna district under the party’s ‘Mana Ooru – Mana Jenda’ (Our Village – Our Flag) campaign.

Party leaders and workers attended the programme. Addressing the gathering, party representatives said the BJP was working towards patriotism, public service and national development. They urged party workers to take the organisation’s principles to the people and strengthen its presence at the grassroots level.
