A businessman from Hyderabad was arrested after a video showing his 11-year-old son driving a luxury electric sports car on the city’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) went viral on social media, prompting swift action by the police.

The video, which attracted widespread attention online, showed the minor behind the wheel of an MG Cyberster , an open-top electric sports car, while travelling on the ORR. The footage also appeared to show the boy’s father seated beside him in the passenger seat, seemingly allowing the child to operate the vehicle.

The incident sparked concern among road safety advocates and social media users, many of whom questioned how a minor was permitted to drive on a high-speed expressway . Following complaints received through social media platforms, Hyderabad Traffic Police initiated an inquiry into the matter.

A police team from the Rajendranagar-Shamshabad ORR jurisdiction verified the authenticity of the video and traced the vehicle involved. The luxury car was subsequently seized, and both the minor and his father were taken into custody. The father was later booked and handed over to the Rajendranagar Cyber Crime Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Police said a case has been registered against the father for permitting a minor to drive , endangering public safety through negligent and dangerous driving , and violating provisions of the law related to road traffic regulations. An investigation is currently underway.

Officials reiterated that allowing underage individuals to drive motor vehicles is a punishable offence and can result in serious legal consequences for parents or guardians. They stressed that such actions not only violate traffic laws but also pose significant risks to the lives of the minor, passengers, and other road users.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police urged parents to exercise greater responsibility and ensure that vehicle keys are kept out of the reach of children. They warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found encouraging or permitting minors to drive.

Emphasising the importance of road safety , police said responsible behaviour must begin at home and that preventing underage driving is a shared responsibility of families and society. The department also appealed to citizens to report similar violations so that prompt action can be taken to prevent accidents and safeguard public safety.
