The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested a father-daughter duo for allegedly cheating job seekers of more than Rs 5.30 crore by promising government jobs through purported links with senior officials and political leaders, police said on Monday.

The accused, identified as Mansoor Ahmed and Shamshad Begum , are alleged to have operated an extensive recruitment scam that targeted more than 40 job aspirants , primarily from North Karnataka. The investigation was launched after one of the victims lodged a complaint with the CCB on November 17, 2025.

According to investigators, the duo falsely claimed they could secure government jobs in both Central and State Government departments. They allegedly offered positions in the Railways, Income Tax Department, Irrigation Department, Health Department and Social Welfare Department, collecting large sums of money from candidates in return.

Police said the accused issued fake appointment letters and established bogus training centres in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata to lend credibility to their claims. In an apparent attempt to maintain the deception and reassure victims, they allegedly paid up to four months' salary to some candidates, creating the impression that the recruitment process was genuine.

Investigators estimate that the father and daughter collected more than Rs 5.30 crore through the scheme. Following months of inquiry, the CCB arrested both accused on June 4 and initiated legal proceedings against them.

Police are continuing efforts to trace the flow of funds, identify any additional victims or associates linked to the racket, and recover the money allegedly obtained through the fraud. The investigation remains ongoing.
