'Fed Up Nagas' Demand Final Political Solution Within Three Months

A Naga youth organisation, 'Fed Up Nagas' , has given the Centre a three-month deadline to implement a final Naga political settlement , warning that it will launch a civil disobedience and non-cooperation movement if no agreement is reached.

At a rally in Dimapur under the theme "Hear the Youth Honour the Truth," the organisation submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah , expressing frustration over the prolonged delay despite the 2015 Framework Agreement with the NSCN-IM and the 2017 Agreed Position with the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) .

The group said the unresolved political issue has contributed to lawlessness, extortion, corruption, intimidation, distrust and social disunity , and urged the Centre to immediately convene all Naga negotiating groups for a round-table meeting to sign a comprehensive and binding agreement based on the two existing accords. It demanded implementation within three months from June 27 .

The organisation said the younger generation could no longer wait for a lasting solution and warned that another delay would force it to launch peaceful protests to safeguard the dignity, identity and collective rights of the Naga people.

WC NNPGs Convenor M Kitovi Zhimomi , the only Naga political leader present at the rally, welcomed the youth's initiative, saying they seek peace, progress and certainty for their future.

Although negotiations on the Naga political issue officially concluded in October 2019 , a final settlement remains pending. The NSCN-IM continues to demand a separate Naga flag and constitution , while the NNPGs have expressed willingness to accept an interim settlement on agreed issues as talks continue on unresolved demands.
