Final touches on voter rolls: ECI’s CEO meet ends
The Election Commission of India (ECI) concluded its two-day Conference of Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) on Thursday at the India International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Management (IIIDEM), New Delhi. The meeting focused on reviewing and strengthening preparations for the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across the country.
The conference was chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi in attendance. CEOs from all States and Union Territories participated in the discussions, providing updates on their respective electoral roll revision activities.
During the sessions, the Commission emphasized the importance of completing all preparatory work for the SIR in a timely and accurate manner. Senior ECI officers made detailed presentations on the SIR process, followed by an open discussion where queries from CEOs were addressed.
The Commission also reviewed the progress made on earlier directions to map current electors against those listed in the previous SIR, ensuring transparency and consistency in voter records.
In a key segment of the conference, the Commission held one-on-one interactions with CEOs from poll-bound States and Union Territories, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and West Bengal, to assess their readiness and address state-specific challenges.
This conference follows the earlier SIR preparedness meeting held on September 10, 2025, during which States and UTs presented data on the number of electors, qualifying dates, and details of their last completed SIR. The latest review aimed to consolidate those efforts and ensure uniformity and efficiency in the upcoming electoral roll revision process.
The ECI reiterated its commitment to maintaining accurate, inclusive, and updated electoral rolls — a cornerstone of free and fair elections in India.
