Five Dead, Several Injured in Northern Germany Shooting, Two Arrested

At least five people were killed and several others injured in a shooting at a youth welfare facility in the northern German town of Stade on Monday, prompting a major police operation.

According to German police, the shooting occurred on Dankersstrasse in Stade, a town of around 50,000 residents located about 40 kilometres west of Hamburg. Authorities said two people have been arrested , including the suspected gunman, and there is no ongoing threat to the public .

Emergency responders and heavily armed police cordoned off the area as investigators began examining the scene. Residents were advised to avoid the vicinity while officers carried out searches and gathered evidence.

Officials have not disclosed the identities of the victims or provided details about the number of people injured. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation , and police have not confirmed whether the victims and the suspect were known to each other or whether the shooting was targeted.

Initial reports had indicated that one suspect was in custody, but authorities later confirmed that two individuals had been arrested in connection with the incident. No further information has been released regarding their roles.

The shooting has shocked the community, where such incidents are rare. Germany maintains strict firearms laws , and fatal mass shootings are uncommon compared with many other countries.
