Five Minors Held After Shooting, Knife Attack in Northeast Delhi

Five juveniles aged between 16 and 17 have been apprehended in connection with an attempted murder case in the Jafrabad area of northeast Delhi, police said on Sunday.

According to police, the incident took place around midnight on August 22 when the juveniles allegedly called a 45-year-old man to Gali Number 17 on the pretext of attending a birthday party. The man reached the location, where four others allegedly joined him.

Police said an argument subsequently broke out between the complainant and the group over an old dispute. During the altercation, one of the juveniles allegedly took out a country-made pistol and fired at the man, while the others allegedly brandished knives.

After the attack, the accused juveniles allegedly fled from the spot. The injured man approached the police, following which a case was registered at Jafrabad police station.

Acting on information received during the investigation, police apprehended all five juveniles. A country-made pistol, an empty cartridge and two knives were recovered at the instance of one of the juveniles, officials said.

Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the attack and are questioning the apprehended juveniles to establish the sequence of events and identify the precise motive behind the alleged assault.

Investigators are also looking into whether the juveniles had planned the attack in advance or whether the confrontation escalated suddenly following the argument.

Further investigation is underway, police said. Authorities are also verifying the recovered weapon and other evidence as part of the probe.

The incident has raised concerns over the involvement of minors in violent crimes involving firearms and knives. Police said appropriate legal action will be taken in accordance with the provisions applicable to juveniles.
