‘Football Won’t Be the Same’: CM Revanth Reddy on Messi’s International Retirement

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has paid an emotional tribute to Argentine football legend Lionel Messi following his decision to retire from international football, saying that the game will no longer feel the same without one of its greatest-ever players.

Taking to X, Revanth Reddy recalled his brief meeting with Messi in Hyderabad and praised the football icon for the joy and inspiration he brought to millions of fans around the world.

“Dear Messi, you have entertained, excited and inspired football fans across the globe. Spending a few moments with you on a football field in Hyderabad was a truly special experience for me,” the Chief Minister said.

Describing Messi as the GOAT - the Greatest of All Time, Revanth Reddy said a football field without the Argentine superstar would never be quite the same. He wished Messi farewell while expressing hope that his legacy would continue to inspire generations.

Messi announced his retirement from international football on Monday, drawing the curtain on an extraordinary journey with the Argentina national team that lasted nearly two decades. His departure from the international stage has prompted an outpouring of emotion from football fans across the world.

The Chief Minister had met Messi during the second leg of the GOAT India Tour in December 2025, when the Argentine star visited Hyderabad along with Luis Suárez and Rodrigo De Paul.

During the visit, Revanth Reddy took part in the GOAT Cup penalty shootout at Uppal Stadium, wearing football gear for the occasion. He later joined Messi at special football clinics organised for children, creating memorable moments for young football enthusiasts.
