Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri Visits Sri Lanka to Push Key India-Sri Lanka Partnership

India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrived in Colombo on Wednesday for a day-long official visit focused on taking forward the strong partnership between India and Sri Lanka. His visit comes as both countries continue regular high level talks on security, trade, energy and development projects.

Misri was received at the airport by Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha and senior officials from Sri Lanka's Foreign Ministry. During his visit, he is scheduled to meet President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, and Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath, along with other senior leaders.

In a statement, the Indian High Commission said the visit builds on recent high level exchanges between the two neighbours. It said the meetings will help strengthen close ties and maintain the pace of work on major joint projects.

The talks are expected to review the progress of agreements signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Sri Lanka earlier this year. These include cooperation in defence, digital services, healthcare, power links, and the planned Trincomalee energy hub, a major project involving India, Sri Lanka and the UAE. Officials are also expected to discuss connectivity, economic cooperation, development projects supported by India, and issues related to fishermen.

India has remained one of Sri Lanka's closest partners, providing financial and development support after the island nation's economic crisis. Both sides are now working to deepen cooperation through investment, infrastructure, clean energy and stronger people to people ties. Wednesday's visit is expected to give fresh momentum to these efforts and prepare the ground for future high level engagements.
