Former Territorial Army Jawan Among Three Held While Trying to Cross LoC Into PoK

Security forces have detained four persons in two separate cross-border incidents along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri sector, prompting an investigation into possible motives behind the movements across the heavily guarded frontier.

Army personnel apprehended three residents of the Sopore area in Baramulla district while they were allegedly attempting to cross into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) through the Hathlanga-Nambla axis on Saturday night, officials said.

The three were intercepted before they could cross the LoC and taken into custody for questioning. Officials said one of those detained is reportedly a former Territorial Army jawan , a development that has drawn the attention of security agencies. Investigators are examining whether the attempted crossing was linked to personal reasons, illegal travel networks, or any other activity. No official statement has so far indicated any militant connection.

The Hathlanga area has remained a sensitive infiltration and exfiltration route along the Uri sector in north Kashmir, where the Army maintains a strong anti-infiltration grid because of repeated attempts by militants and cross-border operatives to move across the LoC.

In a separate incident, the same Army unit apprehended a 25-year-old man from Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-administered Kashmir after he allegedly crossed into the Valley through the Silikote area of Uri.

The man, identified as Zeeshan Ahmad Mir , son of Lal Din Mir, told security personnel that he had crossed the LoC to meet his girlfriend, Iram Bano , a resident of Tileai village in Uri. Officials said both Mir and the woman are being questioned as agencies verify his claims and investigate the circumstances of the border crossing.

The incidents come amid heightened vigilance along the LoC, where security forces have foiled several infiltration attempts in recent months. Authorities said investigations are continuing and further details are awaited.
