The Cincinnati Open will have a strong American flavour in the semifinal round after Frances Tiafoe, Brandon Nakashima, Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula all booked their places in the final four.

The biggest highlight on the men's side is an all-American semifinal between Tiafoe and Nakashima, marking the first time since 2010, when Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish achieved the feat, that two American men have reached the Cincinnati semifinals.

Tiafoe overcame Italy's Lorenzo Musetti 7-6 (2), 7-5 in a tight contest, while Nakashima battled past fellow American Taylor Fritz 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 to continue his impressive run.

For Nakashima, the achievement carries additional significance. He has become the first American man since Mardy Fish in 2011 to reach the semifinals at both the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open in the same season.

Tiafoe, who finished runner-up in Cincinnati in 2024, said his focus and mental approach had been among the biggest positives of his campaign. The American will now face Nakashima, who is coached by Tiafoe's former coach Wayne Ferreira, adding another intriguing layer to their semifinal clash.

On the women's side, Coco Gauff delivered a dominant 6-2, 6-2 victory over Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk. The American star will next take on surprise semifinalist Sara Bejlek, the 20-year-old Czech who stunned Madison Keys 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5) after earlier knocking out world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka.

Meanwhile, world No. 3 Jessica Pegula set up a blockbuster clash with fifth-ranked Iga Swiatek.

With four home players still in contention, American tennis now has a genuine chance to turn an already remarkable week into a memorable Cincinnati Open title sweep.
