Indian boxers made an impressive start at the 46th International Tammer Boxing Tournament, with four pugilists securing semifinal berths through commanding victories on the opening day in Tampere, Finland.
Commonwealth Games gold medallist Arundhati Choudhary (70kg) spearheaded India's campaign with a dominant performance against Finland's Vilma Kuusikko, securing her place in the last four. Aarti Dhariyal (54kg) also delivered a convincing win over Sweden's Britta Lia Tisell, while Ankushita Boro (65kg) defeated Brazil's Haziel Santos to advance to the semifinals.
India's success extended to the men's competition, where Hussam Uddin Mohammed (60kg) produced a technically superior performance to overcome Scotland's Luca Flynn and book his place in the semifinals.
The opening-day victories have given India a strong start at the international tournament, with the country's boxers demonstrating their ability against opponents from different boxing nations.
Meanwhile, two more Indian boxers were scheduled to compete later on Friday. World Champion Jaismine (57kg) was set to begin her campaign against Brazil's Jessica Dias Coutinho, while Hitesh (70kg) was due to face England's Kyle Shaw-Tullin.
With four Indians already through to the last four and two more bouts lined up, the focus will be on extending India's winning run and securing further semifinal places at the Finnish tournament.
