Four Killed, 25 Injured as Double-Decker Bus Crashes into Truck on Yamuna Expressway
At least four people were killed and around 25 passengers injured after a double-decker bus rammed into a container truck on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district early Tuesday, police said.
The accident occurred around 4 a.m. when the bus, travelling from Lucknow , crashed into the rear of a container truck. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar , preliminary findings indicate that the authorized driver was not behind the wheel at the time of the accident.
"The conductor was driving the bus at high speed instead of the authorized driver," Kumar said, adding that statements from injured passengers support the initial findings.
Police said the container truck was travelling in its designated lane when the speeding bus allegedly swerved and collided with it from behind. Authorities have ordered a detailed investigation to determine the exact sequence of events leading to the crash.
The deceased have been identified as the bus driver, the conductor, the cleaner, and one passenger .
The injured were rushed to the district hospital, where District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh and SSP Shlok Kumar met them and reviewed their treatment. Police and district administration officials are overseeing medical care and making arrangements to ensure the passengers can safely continue their journey after discharge.
Officials said none of the injured is in critical condition , although two passengers sustained fractures and are receiving treatment. The families of all passengers have been informed, police added.
The incident is the latest in a series of fatal road accidents on the Yamuna Expressway, once again raising concerns over speeding, driver safety, and adherence to transport regulations on one of the country's busiest highways.
