The India women’s national hockey team produced a spirited comeback to defeat the USA women’s national hockey team 3-2 in their opening Pool A match of the FIH Nations Cup , turning an early setback into a memorable win on Monday.

India endured a difficult start as the USA struck twice inside the opening seven minutes. Ashley Sessa opened the scoring with a field goal in the 4th minute, before Madeleine Zimmer doubled the lead in the 7th minute through a penalty corner, putting India under immediate pressure.

However, India gradually settled and began building momentum through sustained attacking play. The comeback began in the 17th minute when drag flick specialist Deepika converted a penalty corner to reduce the deficit and bring India back into the contest.

Deepika struck again in the 24th minute, once more converting from a penalty corner to level the score at 2-2, completely shifting the momentum in India’s favour.

Before half-time, India completed a remarkable turnaround. Navneet Kaur converted another penalty corner in the 28th minute to hand India a 3-2 lead, sending them into the break with confidence.

The second half saw a tense and physical battle, with both sides earning six penalty corners each. Despite several attempts, neither team managed to score again as both defences held firm under pressure.

India showed strong composure in the closing stages to secure all three points and begin their campaign on a winning note. With this victory, India moved to second place in Pool A on three points, level with Japan , but behind on goal difference.
