
From Gulf to Europe: Jaishankar's Six Nation Tour Puts India's Global Diplomacy in Focus
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has embarked on a six nation diplomatic tour spanning the Gulf region, the United States and Europe , underlining India's continued push to deepen strategic partnerships and strengthen its role in global affairs.
The first leg of the visit, underway from July 5 to July 10 , covers Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman . The tour comes at a crucial time as the Gulf region witnesses rapidly evolving geopolitical developments following the recent US Iran peace agreement , making New Delhi's diplomatic engagement with the region particularly significant.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) , Jaishankar is holding high level meetings with his counterparts and the leadership of the four Gulf nations. The discussions are expected to focus on enhancing bilateral relations , reviewing regional developments and exploring new opportunities for cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
India shares close political, economic and cultural ties with the Gulf countries, which are among its most important strategic partners. The visit is expected to reinforce cooperation in trade, investment, energy security and regional stability while strengthening people to people connections.
Following the Gulf leg, Jaishankar is scheduled to travel to New York , where he will officially launch India's campaign for a non permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2028-29 term on July 13 . The campaign marks an important milestone in India's efforts to secure a greater role in global decision making and further strengthen its voice in international institutions.
The final phase of the tour will take the External Affairs Minister to Brussels on July 14 and 15 for the third India European Union Trade and Technology Council (TTC) meeting. During his visit, Jaishankar is also expected to hold discussions with senior European Union and Belgian leaders on expanding cooperation across key sectors.
Established in 2022 , the Trade and Technology Council has emerged as a key platform for strengthening collaboration between India and the European Union in cutting edge technologies. The partnership focuses on strategic areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, semiconductors and cybersecurity, reflecting the growing importance of technology driven cooperation in bilateral relations.
