From ‘Sheeshmahal’ to PAC Probe What CAG Found in Kejriwal’s Former Delhi Residence

The Delhi Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Monday deferred its proposed inspection of former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s bungalow at 6, Flagstaff Road, with its chairman saying the proceedings had been made public and given a political colour.

PAC chairman Ajay Mahawar said the committee was yet to decide a suitable time for inspecting the bungalow. He said making proceedings public and turning them into a political controversy undermined the dignity of the committee and parliamentary process.

According to the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, the construction area at the property increased from approximately 1,397 square metres to around 1,905 square metres. Mahawar said this raised the issue of an additional financial impact of approximately Rs 18.88 crore.

The CAG has also raised questions regarding expenditure on civil works, electrical works, modular kitchens and other components. The audit report referred to expenditure of approximately Rs 45.90 lakh on curtains.

Mahawar said the PAC’s examination also covers the demolition of old quarters, new construction, eligibility of contractors, allocation of work and payments, as these issues were raised by the CAG.

He said a site inspection was necessary to understand the status of these matters. The inspection planned for Monday was therefore deferred after the committee proceedings became public and the issue was given a political colour, he said.

The Aam Aadmi Party, said the Bharatiya Janata Party was making false claims about the property’s opulence. AAP chief spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said the BJP had cancelled a scheduled PAC visit after the party challenged it to locate the alleged “golden commode”, bar and swimming pool at the bungalow.

The BJP had made renovation work at the property, which it called “Sheeshmahal”, a major issue during the 2025 Delhi Assembly election. The party had alleged inordinate expenditure on the residence.

The PAC is now expected to soon decide a date for the site inspection. Its examination will again focus on issues raised in the CAG report, including construction, contractor eligibility, work allocation and payments.
