From Team India to Europe: Ajinkya Rahane Takes Charge at Amsterdam Flames

Former India captain Ajinkya Rahane has embarked on a fresh cricketing journey by joining Amsterdam Flames as a marquee player in the inaugural European T20 Premier League (ETPL), saying the move offers him an opportunity to create a meaningful global impact after his international retirement.

The tournament, scheduled from August 26 to September 20, will be staged across Dublin, Ireland, and The Hague, Netherlands, bringing together international stars and emerging European talent.

Rahane revealed that the offer arrived on the very day he announced his retirement from international cricket. A personal phone call from Flames co-owner Steve Waugh convinced him to embrace the new challenge after careful consideration.

The veteran batter said his years of international experience and leadership could benefit younger players while allowing him to contribute to the growth of cricket in Europe. "Sharing my experience and creating an impact" remains his primary objective during the competition.

Highlighting the steady progress of teams such as Ireland and the Netherlands, Rahane praised their passion, commitment and willingness to improve. He believes the ETPL will provide European cricketers with invaluable exposure by allowing them to compete alongside accomplished international players and learn from renowned cricketing minds.

The 38-year-old also feels the presence of celebrated cricket figures such as Rahul Dravid, Steve Smith, Mitchell Marsh, Steve Waugh and Matthew Hayden will boost the league's credibility and attract wider audiences.
