The Cockroach Janta Party took its protest campaign to the streets of Pune on Thursday, formally launching a nationwide agitation from the Savitribai Phule Pune University campus with a clear ultimatum to the Centre: resign or face an indefinite sit-in.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke addressed a press conference at SPPU, announcing the release of an education manifesto alongside the commencement of the nationwide protest tour, with the central demand being the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over a series of examination-related controversies. Dipke said the protest would remain peaceful and be conducted within the framework of the Constitution. The education manifesto, unveiled at the event, proposes measures to prevent question paper leaks , ensure timely declaration of results, and strengthen transparency and accountability in competitive examinations and recruitment processes — grievances that have festered among students following controversies around NEET-UG and CBSE evaluations.

Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk arrived at the protest venue alongside hundreds of students and supporters, as the gathering gained momentum throughout the day, lending the movement a visible boost in credibility and public attention. Wangchuk linked the issue to broader questions of public trust and accountability, widening the campaign's appeal beyond examination-specific concerns. Participants held placards and raised concerns over irregularities in national testing systems including CBSE and NEET, directing their message squarely at Pradhan and asking whether he could hear the growing voices from the ground.

The Pune launch follows the June 6 protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, where students and young people from different parts of the country gathered to demand accountability over alleged examination irregularities. Thursday's demonstration marked the escalation of that momentum into a structured, city-by-city campaign. Protests are scheduled to be held across multiple cities including Lucknow, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Jaipur, and Hyderabad , before the campaign converges again in Delhi.

The CJP has warned of an indefinite peaceful sit-in at Jantar Mantar beginning June 20 if Pradhan does not step down, with the organisation stating that the youth of this country will gather on that date and remain until the minister resigns. Dipke has also indicated his readiness to personally lead demonstrations across states if the campaign escalates further. The movement, which drew criticism for blurring the line between social activism and political organisation, was defended by Dipke, who argued that a social movement evolving into organised political action is a legitimate trajectory when long-term institutional reform is the goal. With June 20 now set as the next major test, all eyes are on whether the CJP can sustain and expand the public energy it has generated in the weeks since its formation.
