From Warships to C-295 Aircraft: PM Modi Showcases India’s Growing Defence Self-Reliance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted India’s growing defence self-reliance and indigenous manufacturing capabilities during the 135th episode of Mann Ki Baat, saying recent achievements in naval, aerospace and missile technology reflect the country’s resolve to build a stronger security framework.

The Prime Minister highlighted the induction of INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak and INS Agray into the Indian Navy, describing them as symbols of India’s growing shipbuilding capabilities. Built with indigenous design and manufacturing, these warships strengthen India’s maritime security strategy and operational preparedness in the Indian Ocean region.

PM Modi also spoke about the Made-in-India C-295 aircraft , which has completed its maiden flight, with 40 aircraft being manufactured in India. He said the project would boost the aerospace sector, create employment opportunities and support the growth of MSMEs.

He further mentioned the successful test of the indigenous Long-Range Land-Attack Cruise Missile , developed by DRDO and Indian industry partners , as another milestone in strengthening India’s defence capabilities.

The Prime Minister said India’s defence strategy focuses on Atmanirbhar Bharat , technological advancement and reducing dependence on foreign suppliers. He noted that indigenous platforms such as fighter aircraft, missiles, naval vessels and advanced defence systems are helping India move towards greater strategic independence.

PM Modi said the country’s security approach is now centred on innovation, preparedness and building long-term capabilities across land, sea and air domains. He added that these achievements demonstrate India’s journey towards becoming a more secure and self-reliant nation.
