Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus arrived in Barcelona on Monday to complete his move from Arsenal, expressing his delight at joining the Spanish champions.

The 29-year-old striker briefly spoke to reporters after arriving at the airport, saying he was “very happy” as he prepared to finalize the transfer. Jesus was expected to undergo a medical examination before signing his contract with the Catalan club.

Barcelona have reportedly agreed to pay Arsenal an initial €10 million ($11.6 million/£8.6 million) for the Brazilian, with additional payments linked to add-ons.

Jesus also sought to ease concerns over his fitness after undergoing major knee surgery in the past. The Brazilian said his knee was “perfect”, offering reassurance as he prepares to begin a new chapter in La Liga.

The move comes as Barcelona look to strengthen their attacking options following their unsuccessful pursuit of Julián Álvarez. The Atlético Madrid forward had reportedly expressed a desire to leave, but the Spanish club were unwilling to sell him to their La Liga rivals.

Jesus is expected to help fill the void left by the departure of veteran striker Robert Lewandowski, who joined Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer. Barcelona have also seen Ferran Torres move to Paris Saint-Germain, prompting the club to reshape its forward line.

The Catalan giants have already added England forward Anthony Gordon as part of their attacking rebuild, with Jesus set to bring versatility and experience to the squad.

Having joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022, Jesus scored 32 goals in 123 appearances for the Gunners. His time in north London was affected by injury setbacks, including a serious knee problem, but the Brazilian now appears ready for a fresh start with Barcelona.

With his medical and contract formalities nearing completion, Gabriel Jesus is set to begin a new chapter at one of European football's biggest clubs.
