Gadkari Flags Off Hero’s Flex-Fuel Bikes, Strengthening India’s Green Mobility Mission

India took another significant step towards cleaner and more sustainable transportation as Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari joined Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in launching Hero MotoCorp’s first flex-fuel motorcycles in New Delhi.

Highlighting the environmental benefits of the technology, Gadkari noted that wider adoption of flex-fuel vehicles could reduce carbon monoxide emissions by up to 77 percent . Such a shift would not only contribute to cleaner air but also help India advance its long-term sustainability objectives.

According to estimates shared during the event, increased use of flex-fuel technology could help the country save nearly ₹1.44 lakh crore in foreign exchange by reducing crude oil imports. This would strengthen India’s energy independence while easing pressure on the import bill.

Beyond environmental and economic gains, the initiative is expected to create a positive impact across rural India. Higher demand for ethanol and biofuels could generate fresh opportunities for farmers, strengthen rural energy security , and encourage waste-to-wealth initiatives that convert agricultural residue and biomass into valuable fuel resources.
