Women members of self-help groups should make the best use of the financial assistance available through Stree Nidhi loans to strengthen their livelihoods and achieve economic independence, District Collector Rizwan Basha Shaik said.

The Collector made the remarks on Tuesday while inaugurating two electric autos purchased by beneficiaries who secured ₹3 lakh loans through Stree Nidhi. The vehicles were launched at the Integrated District Offices Complex (IDOC) premises with the support of the District Rural Development Department and the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP).

Rizwan Basha Shaik said the government was providing loans through banks to help women become financially self-reliant and develop sustainable sources of income. He encouraged eligible members of women’s self-help groups to take advantage of the available credit facilities and invest them in livelihood-generating activities.

The Collector noted that electric autos could prove particularly beneficial in rural areas such as Gattu mandal, where transportation facilities remain limited. Providing such vehicles to women’s groups would create new employment opportunities while also helping address the mobility needs of people in underserved areas, he said.

He further pointed out that the promotion of electric vehicles could contribute to environmental protection by encouraging cleaner transportation options. The initiative, therefore, offers beneficiaries an opportunity to earn a livelihood while supporting more sustainable mobility in rural communities.

During the programme, the Collector interacted with the beneficiaries and gathered details about the electric autos, including their mileage, servicing facilities and maintenance requirements. He later took a short ride in one of the vehicles along with DRDO Mushahida Begum to assess its performance firsthand.

DRDO Mushahida Begum, DPM Salomi, Stree Nidhi Regional Manager Sandeep, APMs and other staff members attended the programme.
