Ganesh Chaturthi 2026: Telangana Police Step Up Security Ahead of September 14 Celebrations

Telangana is gearing up for elaborate Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, with the police department drawing up comprehensive security measures to prevent disruptions and ensure the festivities pass off peacefully. DGP C.V. Anand has directed police officials across the state to complete preparations well ahead of the celebrations, which will begin on September 14 and culminate with Ganesh idol immersions on September 25.

Anand held a video conference with SIs and senior police officers from across Telangana on Monday to assess the department’s preparedness. During the meeting, he said a dedicated online portal had been launched to facilitate the collection and monitoring of information related to Ganesh pandals.

Officials have been asked to enter details such as the location of each pandal, organisers and committee members, along with information on vehicles that will be used to transport idols for immersion. The database is expected to help police keep track of festival-related activities and strengthen coordination during the celebrations.

The DGP instructed Commissioners of Police, DCPs and SPs to personally inspect Ganesh pandals in their jurisdictions and document the conditions at each location in point books. Particular attention has been sought on electrical safety and traffic management, given the large crowds expected around major pandals.

Police officials have also been directed to coordinate with the electricity and fire departments to identify and address potential hazards. Organisers should be encouraged to deploy volunteers at pandals, while adequate arrangements must be made for CCTV surveillance and queue management.

With the immersion process scheduled for September 25, police have been asked to inspect immersion routes, roads and bridges in advance. Officials must assess the load-bearing capacity of bridges and plan traffic diversions and security measures based on those assessments.

Anand also called for geo-tagging of pandals and security arrangements to improve monitoring and facilitate quicker response during the festival.

The police department will additionally keep a close watch on social media posts and online information during the celebrations. Officials have been instructed to respond immediately to any developments or content that could potentially disturb public order or affect communal harmony.

With thousands of devotees expected to participate in the festivities, the advance preparations are aimed at combining effective crowd management, traffic regulation and public safety to ensure a peaceful Ganesh festival across Telangana.
