Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 223 and Rohit Sharma’s 101 powered India to an eight-wicket victory over West Indies in the second ODI on Wednesday, giving the hosts an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

West Indies posted 405/7, their highest-ever ODI total, after centuries from John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo. Campbell scored 101, Hope made 104 and Jangoo contributed 114 as the visitors completed their 50 overs.

India began the chase strongly as Rohit and Gill added 255 runs for the first wicket, their highest opening partnership at home in ODIs. Rohit brought up his 35th ODI century, scoring 101 from 75 balls with 10 fours and six sixes.

Gill continued after Rohit’s dismissal and finished unbeaten on 223 from 133 balls, including 26 fours and eight sixes. He reached his double century from 117 balls, recording the fastest double century in ODI cricket. His unbeaten 223 also became the highest individual score in a successful ODI chase.

India reached 406/2 in 43.3 overs, with 39 balls remaining. Virat Kohli scored 29 from 19 deliveries, while Ruturaj Gaikwad stayed unbeaten on 30 to complete the chase.

The match also featured a milestone for Kuldeep Yadav, who took two wickets for 65 runs. He became the fastest Indian spinner to 200 ODI wickets, reaching the landmark in his 123rd match. Kuldeep is the ninth Indian bowler to take 200 wickets in the format.

For West Indies, the three centuries helped them cross the 400-run mark for the first time in ODIs. Their previous highest total was 389 against England in 2019.

The victory gave India their second consecutive eight-wicket win in the series. The third and final ODI is scheduled to be played on October 3 in New Chandigarh, with India already holding an unassailable 2-0 advantage.
