Goa has stepped up tourist safety measures ahead of Diwali and the winter holiday season, while making extensive security and traffic arrangements for the sixth edition of IRONMAN 70.3 Goa, scheduled to be held at Miramar on November 1.

The Goa Police and Tourism Department have coordinated with representatives of hotels, restaurants, clubs and other hospitality establishments to strengthen visitor safety and prevent online booking fraud. A stakeholder meeting chaired by Director General of Police Alok Kumar on Friday reviewed security measures and regulatory compliance ahead of the expected increase in tourist arrivals.

The discussions focused on the installation and maintenance of CCTV cameras, unobstructed entry and exit points, fire safety compliance, staff conduct, noise restrictions and vigilance against unlawful activities. Hospitality operators were also advised to report suspicious incidents and remain alert to fraudulent online hotel bookings.

Separately, more than 2,000 triathletes from 30 countries are expected to participate in IRONMAN 70.3 Goa. A 75-member lifesaving team deployed by Drishti Marine will oversee the 1.9-km swimming segment in the Arabian Sea. Five jet skis, two boats, surfboards and two jeeps will support rescue operations.

For the first time, the agency will deploy its AURUS and TRITON safety technologies. AURUS is a self-driving beach safety robot, while TRITON uses artificial intelligence to monitor non-swimming zones and identify potential risks. Specially trained dogs from its Paw Squad will also assist in rescue operations.

Traffic restrictions and diversions will begin at 3 am on November 1 across parts of Panaji, Ribandar and Miramar. Restrictions will affect Ribandar Causeway, D.B. Marg, Dr Jack Sequeira Road and areas near NIO Circle and Raj Bhavan. Selected lanes on National Highway 66 will be reserved for the race. Some arrangements will continue until around 4.30 pm.

The Captain of Ports has advised Mandovi River vessel operators to maintain a safe distance from swimmers and reduce speed between 5.30 am and 2 pm.

The 113-km competition comprises a 1.9-km swim, 90-km cycling leg and 21.1-km run. Around 150 local Goan participants are also expected.
