Giving a major push to Telangana's expanding oil palm sector , Godrej Agrovet Ltd. has announced plans to establish the state's first private integrated oil palm complex in Khammam district with an investment of ₹300 crore . The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and senior executives of the company on Wednesday at Bodhi Pavilion, MCR HRD Institute , where both sides reviewed the roadmap for expanding oil palm cultivation, strengthening processing infrastructure and creating new employment opportunities.

The company's delegation, led by Rakesh Swamy , President of Corporate Affairs at Godrej Group , and Saugata Niyogi , CEO of Godrej Agrovet's Oil Palm Business , submitted a detailed project report outlining the proposed integrated facility and its expected contribution to Telangana's agri-processing sector.

The company plans to develop the project in Gubbagurthi village of Konijerla mandal in Khammam district. The integrated complex is expected to generate more than 700 direct and indirect jobs , providing a significant boost to the local economy. The facility will include a state-of-the-art oil palm processing unit , a modern nursery , a research and development (R&D) centre , and a seed garden to produce high-quality planting material for farmers.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that the Telangana government has already allotted 113.5 acres for the project. The company has requested an additional 35 to 40 acres to expand the seed garden and also sought the widening of the approach road leading to the processing unit to facilitate smooth transportation of fresh fruit bunches.

Responding positively, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy directed officials to take up the required road expansion through the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) . He assured the company of the government's full support in developing the infrastructure needed to accelerate investments in agro-based industries and strengthen the state's oil palm ecosystem.

The project complements the National Mission on Edible Oils–Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) , under which both the Centre and the state are promoting large-scale oil palm cultivation to reduce India's dependence on imported edible oils. Telangana has emerged as one of the country's fastest-growing oil palm-producing states, supported by favourable climatic conditions, expanding irrigation facilities and proactive government policies.

Industry experts believe integrated projects such as the proposed Godrej Agrovet complex can significantly improve the oil palm value chain by combining quality seed production, scientific research, farmer extension services and processing under one umbrella. This reduces the time between harvesting and processing, a crucial factor in maintaining oil quality while improving productivity and farmer incomes.

Once operational, the Khammam facility is expected to strengthen Telangana's position as a leading oil palm cultivation hub , attract further agri-processing investments and create sustainable employment, while supporting India's broader objective of achieving greater self-reliance in edible oil production .
