Government Tightens Grip on Essential Commodity Prices
The Andhra Pradesh government has intensified efforts to ensure affordable availability of essential commodities , with senior ministers reviewing price trends and supply conditions at a high-level meeting in the Secretariat.
Civil Supplies Minister Nandendla Manohar , along with Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav and Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu , attended the 8th meeting of the Price Stabilisation Ministers’ Committee . The review focused on the availability and pricing of key goods such as rice , pulses , edible oils , onions , and tomatoes .
Officials were instructed to closely monitor wholesale and retail prices on a daily basis and respond swiftly to market fluctuations . While acknowledging the impact of global geopolitical tensions on edible oil prices , the ministers assured that the state is prepared to shield consumers from any burden. A three-month plan has been outlined to maintain price stability through proactive measures.
The meeting also reviewed preparations for the upcoming Kharif-2026 season, with emphasis on coordination between the agriculture and civil supplies departments. Ministers expressed concern over certain paddy varieties such as 1010 and PR-126 , which face low market demand and higher broken grain percentage, often leading to losses for farmers during procurement.
To address this, the government plans to launch field-level awareness campaigns encouraging farmers to shift towards higher-demand paddy varieties. The initiative is aimed at improving farmer incomes while ensuring smoother procurement aligned with market requirements .
