Telangana is projecting strong economic growth with rising income levels and expanding economic activity, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said while addressing the joint session of the State Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council at the beginning of the budget session on Monday. His address highlighted the state’s economic performance, development agenda and future growth ambitions, even as opposition protests created tense moments in the House.

Presenting an overview of the state’s economic trajectory, the Governor said Telangana’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) is projected to reach ₹17.82 lakh crore in the 2025–26 financial year , reflecting a strong 10.7 percent growth rate . Telangana’s contribution to the national economy has also been increasing steadily, with the state currently accounting for about 4.99 percent of India’s GDP .

The Governor noted that the state’s economic expansion has translated into higher living standards. Telangana’s per capita income has risen to ₹4.18 lakh , placing it among the higher-performing states in terms of income levels. He also pointed out that inflation in the state has remained extremely low at 0.2 percent , indicating stable economic conditions.

Looking ahead, the government has set ambitious targets under the “Telangana Rising – Vision 2047” roadmap. The strategy aims to transform Telangana into a $3 trillion economy by 2047 , aligning with the centenary of India’s Independence. As an important milestone, the government has set a target of building a $1 trillion state economy by 2034 , positioning Telangana among the fastest-growing regional economies in the country over the coming decade.

The Governor said the government is focusing on balanced development across the state to sustain economic growth. Hyderabad will continue to function as a major technology and innovation hub, while surrounding regions are expected to expand in manufacturing, logistics and industrial activity. At the same time, rural regions will receive greater attention through initiatives supporting agriculture, food processing and allied sectors.

Telangana has also strengthened its position in exports and the technology sector. The state currently ranks seventh in India in merchandise exports , with goods exports valued at around ₹1.61 lakh crore . The IT sector remains a major driver of the economy, with IT exports reaching ₹3.13 lakh crore and generating employment for nearly 9.39 lakh professionals .

However, the Governor’s address was marked by political tensions in the Assembly. Members of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) staged protests during the speech, wearing black badges and raising slogans against the Congress government. Opposition legislators accused the government of exaggerating its achievements and failing to fulfil key electoral promises.

Despite the political friction, the Governor’s address set the stage for the ongoing budget session, where the government is expected to outline its fiscal priorities and development plans for the coming year.
