Guruvayur Temple Braces for 400+ Weddings on September 13

Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple in Thrissur is set to witness more than 400 weddings on September 13, with 409 ceremonies already booked, the Guruvayur Devaswom said.

September 13 falls on the last Sunday of the Malayalam month of Chingam, which is considered an auspicious period for marriages. Bookings can continue until the eve of the ceremonies, and the final number may increase, the Devaswom said.

The temple had witnessed a record 416 weddings on August 23, when ceremonies were conducted from 4.10 am to 12.45 pm across six mandapams. The previous record was 334 weddings, held on September 8, 2024. More than 100 civil police personnel were deployed in and around the temple and the temple town on that day.

For September 13, wedding ceremonies will begin at 4 am and will be conducted across six mandapams. Additional Devaswom staff will be deployed at the wedding venue to coordinate the ceremonies. A traditional musical ensemble will also be stationed near the mandapams.

Police personnel will be deployed inside and outside the temple and across Guruvayur town in view of the expected rush. The eastern entrance will be made one-way to regulate the movement of devotees.

The Devaswom said CCTV cameras installed inside and outside the temple and across the temple town will remain operational, while security personnel will maintain round-the-clock surveillance.

Devaswom chairman A V Gopinath and administrator S Harigopal appealed to devotees to cooperate with the arrangements for the smooth conduct of the weddings and darshan.

The temple authorities said legal action would be taken against anti-social activities detected during the arrangements.

More than 1.5 lakh devotees had visited the temple during the recent Ashtami Rohini celebrations, while around 50,000 devotees participated in the special prasada oottu, the Devaswom said.
