Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is in Sweden with a delegation from October 14 to 17 to attract foreign investment, strengthen industrial partnerships and explore cooperation in technology and sustainable development.

The delegation includes Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel. Indian Ambassador to Sweden Anurag Bhushan welcomed Saini on arrival.

Saini is scheduled to address India-Sweden Innovation Day in Stockholm on October 15 and hold meetings with Swedish government representatives, industry leaders and prospective investors. He is also expected to meet Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Benjamin Dousa, to discuss trade facilitation and industrial cooperation.

The delegation is targeting investment opportunities in energy, home furnishings, real estate, defence and automobiles. Discussions are expected to cover renewable energy, energy-efficient technologies, electric mobility, automotive components and advanced manufacturing.

A key part of the visit is the proposed development of sister-city partnerships between urban centres in Haryana and Sweden. The state plans to study Sweden’s city-to-city cooperation model and explore exchanges in urban planning, waste management, water conservation, sustainable housing, public transport and smart governance.

Haryana is also considering a network of linked urban centres along the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway. Under the proposal, developed cities such as Gurugram could share technical and administrative expertise with other urban areas. The plan remains under consideration, with implementation dependent on further discussions.

Officials have said the visit will focus on technology transfer, industrial automation and skill development, including opportunities for Haryana’s micro, small and medium enterprises to join international supply chains. A Haryana session is expected to present the state’s industrial base, infrastructure and investment policies to Swedish businesses.

The visit follows Saini’s trip to Singapore, which concluded on October 6. The state government said that visit generated investment proposals worth about Rs 5,500 crore, covering healthcare, water management and education.

The Sweden programme includes government meetings, industry interactions and business roundtables. No investment agreement or project outcome had been announced as of Thursday in the reports available on October 15.
