The Southwest monsoon continues to remain active across southern India , with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting heavy rainfall in several parts of Tamil Nadu from June 28 . The weather system is expected to bring intense showers across multiple districts as monsoon currents strengthen over the region.

The IMD has forecast heavy rain in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Vellore, Kancheepuram and Tiruvannamalai districts . Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain cautious as periods of intense rainfall may lead to waterlogging and local disruptions.

The weather department has also issued a warning for rough sea conditions over the Southwest Bay of Bengal , with strong winds expected to reach 40–50 kmph . Fishermen have been advised to avoid entering the sea during the adverse weather period. Ocean current alerts have been issued for coastal areas around Karaikal and Nagapattinam .

Tamil Nadu recorded significant rainfall in the previous 24 hours, with Thammampatty in Salem receiving the highest rainfall of 4 cm , followed by Veppanthattai in Perambalur with 3 cm .

Meanwhile, neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are also likely to witness increased monsoon activity . Several districts in Telangana may experience moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, while parts of Andhra Pradesh , particularly coastal and interior regions, are expected to receive scattered showers due to active monsoon conditions.

In Chennai and surrounding areas , the IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning , especially during evening and night hours. Authorities have urged people to stay updated with weather advisories as monsoon activity remains strong across southern states.
