Heavy Rains Likely In Kerala Till June 14, IMD Issues Orange Alerts In Three Districts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday forecast heavy rainfall in Kerala till June 14 and issued a warning against fishing activities along the Kerala–Karnataka–Lakshadweep coast due to strong winds and rough sea conditions .
The weather agency said strong surface winds of 40–60 kmph and adverse sea conditions are likely over the coastal region, advising fishermen not to venture into the sea for the next few days as a precautionary measure.
The IMD also projected heavy rainfall across parts of Kerala between June 10 and 14 , indicating an active phase of the southwest monsoon over the state.
An orange alert has been issued for Thursday in Ernakulam, Idukki and Thrissur districts , warning of the possibility of very heavy rainfall between 11 cm and 20 cm in 24 hours .
Earlier in the day, a short-duration orange alert was also issued in Alappuzha and Ernakulam districts , starting from 10 am, due to intense rainfall activity.
The IMD further forecast thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall and gusty surface winds of 40–50 kmph across several districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod.
On Tuesday, heavy rains and strong winds affected several parts of Kerala, especially in northern districts, leading to widespread waterlogging and prompting precautionary evacuations in some vulnerable locations.
Authorities have urged people in low-lying and disaster-prone areas to remain alert and follow safety advisories as monsoon activity intensifies across the state.
Meanwhile, neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are also experiencing monsoon activity , though with comparatively lower intensity.
In Coastal Andhra Pradesh , Andhra Pradesh is likely to see scattered to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy spells , especially in northern coastal districts, along with gusty winds near the coast.
In Telangana , Telangana is expected to receive light to moderate showers and thunderstorms , particularly during evening hours, with no widespread severe warning at present, though localised heavy rain cannot be ruled out.
