Hiddleston, Pattinson or Bower? Fans Debate Who Should Play Voldemort

Fans of the Harry Potter franchise have taken to social media with playful suggestions for who could portray Lord Voldemort in HBO’s upcoming television reboot, with names including Tom Hiddleston, Jamie Campbell Bower and Robert Pattinson featuring prominently in fan posts and memes.

The speculation comes as HBO prepares to premiere the first season, based on Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, on December 25, 2026. The reboot is being developed as a television adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books, allowing the story to be explored in greater detail than in the original film series.

Production is already underway, with Dominic McLaughlin playing Harry Potter and John Lithgow portraying Albus Dumbledore. Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout will play Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley respectively. Other confirmed cast members include Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

However, the casting of Voldemort’s adult incarnation remains unconfirmed, making the character one of the reboot’s biggest casting mysteries. The uncertainty has encouraged fans to turn speculation into a social-media guessing game, with memes imagining different actors taking on the iconic villain.

Pattinson’s inclusion has generated particular amusement because he previously played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Fans have joked about the full-circle possibility of seeing him return to the franchise, this time as its most notorious villain.

Jamie Campbell Bower is another popular suggestion, having previously portrayed young Tom Riddle in the original films.

However, the names remain fan speculation, not confirmed casting. HBO chief Casey Bloys has urged skepticism toward online rumours surrounding the series.

Meanwhile, Billy Barratt has been cast as young Tom Riddle for the second season, based on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, adding another piece to the reboot’s evolving Voldemort storyline.
