High-Speed Rail Corridors Could Transform Telangana’s Growth: Kishan Reddy

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Sunday said the proposed high-speed rail corridors linking Hyderabad with Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune would significantly boost Telangana’s economic growth and connectivity.

He said the improved connectivity could give a major push to industrial growth and mobility while also helping reduce traffic pressure in Hyderabad.

Kishan Reddy made the remarks during a visit to Vikarabad Railway Station, where he reviewed ongoing redevelopment works and highlighted the Centre’s wider plans to strengthen railway infrastructure across Telangana.

The station, which handles thousands of passengers and more than 60 train movements daily, is being upgraded at an estimated cost of Rs 27 crore. The redevelopment includes new and expanded departure and waiting halls, an executive lounge, improved parking facilities, an auto bay and a grand portico. According to the Minister, the work is progressing at a fast pace and is expected to be completed by the end of this year, ahead of schedule.

He also said the rail manufacturing unit at Kazipet was nearing completion and would soon be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Highlighting railway safety and connectivity initiatives, Kishan Reddy said Telangana was witnessing the implementation of the indigenous Kavach and Kavach 2.0 safety systems. Hyderabad, he added, is now served by five Vande Bharat trains, strengthening the city’s rail links with other regions.

The Centre is simultaneously redeveloping 40 railway stations across Telangana, with Vikarabad, Tandur, Nampally, Secunderabad, Moula Ali and Cherlapally among those being upgraded with modern infrastructure.

Railway capacity expansion is also underway through the doubling, tripling and quadrupling of rail lines, while the State’s railway network has achieved 100% electrification, he said.

With three proposed high-speed rail corridors set to connect Hyderabad with Pune, Bengaluru and Chennai, Kishan Reddy said the projects could become a key driver of Telangana’s future growth and connectivity.
