Hijack Threat Note Triggers Full Emergency At Bengaluru Airport, IndiGo Flight Returns Safely
A suspected hijack threat aboard a Lucknow-bound IndiGo flight prompted a full emergency declaration at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru on Saturday after a threatening note was discovered inside the aircraft's lavatory. However, security checks found no evidence of an actual hijacking or explosives, and the threat was subsequently declared a hoax.
IndiGo flight 6E-451, operating from Bengaluru to Lucknow, was airborne when crew members found the suspected hijack threat message in the aircraft's washroom. According to reports, the note warned of a possible hijacking at 6.30 pm, triggering an immediate security response.
Following established safety protocols, the cabin crew alerted the pilots, who informed the Air Traffic Control (ATC) and decided to return to Bengaluru. The aircraft was given priority clearance to land, while airport authorities declared a full emergency at Terminal 1 to ensure that emergency response teams were prepared for any eventuality.
After landing safely, the aircraft was moved to an isolated bay, where security personnel and aviation law enforcement agencies took control. CISF personnel, police teams, bomb disposal experts and sniffer dogs were deployed to conduct extensive anti-sabotage inspections and security checks.
The inspections reportedly found no suspicious objects or explosives. Authorities subsequently treated the threat as a hoax and lifted the emergency. All passengers disembarked safely, with no reports of injuries.
An investigation was initiated to identify the person responsible for writing and placing the threatening note inside the aircraft.
