Hillary Clinton denies knowledge of Epstein, Bill Clinton set to testify before house panel

Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told House investigators on Thursday that she had no knowledge of the criminal activities of Jeffrey Epstein or his longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell , and said she did not recall ever meeting Epstein.

Her closed-door deposition, held in the Clintons’ hometown of Chappaqua , marked the beginning of two days of testimony before the Republican-led House Oversight Committee . Former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to testify separately on Friday.

In an opening statement posted on social media, Hillary Clinton said she was “horrified” by what has emerged about Epstein’s abuse of underage girls and insisted she had no involvement or awareness of his conduct. She acknowledged that her husband had traveled with Epstein on charitable trips but said she herself had no recollection of encountering him. She also confirmed having met Maxwell at events connected to the Clinton Foundation and noted that Maxwell attended their daughter Chelsea’s wedding in 2010.

The depositions follow months of tense negotiations between the Clintons and committee chairman James Comer , who had threatened contempt of Congress charges after rejecting the couple’s offers to submit sworn written statements.

Republicans have intensified scrutiny of Bill Clinton after the Justice Department released Epstein-related files earlier this year that included photographs of the former president. Clinton has denied any wrongdoing and said he was unaware of Epstein’s crimes at the time.

The inquiry also examines why federal prosecutors did not pursue additional charges against Epstein after a 2008 plea deal in Florida. Committee leaders say the investigation seeks to clarify how Epstein amassed wealth and cultivated relationships with powerful figures.

Democrats have urged broader accountability, with some calling for testimony from Donald Trump , who authorized the release of Epstein case files last year. Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, accused the committee of running a politically skewed probe and argued that the focus should remain on supporting survivors and exposing institutional failures.
