The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is gearing up for Special Campaign 6, the Centre’s latest initiative to institutionalise cleanliness, reduce administrative pendency and improve the efficiency of government functioning. Coordinated by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), the campaign will combine workplace cleanliness with disposal of pending matters, grievance redressal, record management, better utilisation of office space and environmentally responsible waste management.

The campaign will be implemented from October 2 to October 31, 2026, following a preparatory phase during September. MHA will focus particularly on field and outstation offices that directly interface with the public. Under the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the ministry will address pendency involving Members of Parliament and State Governments, Parliament Assurances, Inter-Ministerial Consultations, public grievances and appeals, besides improving record management. The CAPFs and Central Police Organisations have also been sensitised to participate.

MHA enters the campaign with significant progress. Between November 2025 and August 2026, it conducted 761 Swachhta campaigns, disposed of 299 MP references, 336 State Government references and seven PMO references, and cleared 52,050 public grievances and 7,410 appeals. It also freed 1,02,084 sq. ft. of office space across MHA and CAPF establishments.

The latest campaign builds on an initiative launched in 2021 to tackle government pendency and workplace cleanliness. Across five editions through 2025 and monitoring up to July 2026, the government reports more than 24.20 lakh sites covered, 180.48 lakh files weeded out or closed and over ₹5,102.91 crore generated through scrap disposal. Special Campaign 5 alone covered nearly 11.6 lakh sites, weeded out 29.52 lakh files, freed 233.75 lakh sq. ft. and generated about ₹833.92 crore.

E-waste management has emerged as a major focus of Special Campaign 6, with departments expected to ensure scientific collection, segregation and disposal. A dedicated digital monitoring system will track campaign progress, including e-waste activities. MHA is separately using an intra-Ministry portal involving its divisions, Union Territories and Delhi Police to consolidate data.

The campaign will also document best practices, with selected initiatives expected to be showcased during Good Governance Week from December 19–25, 2026. The Centre is positioning Special Campaign 6 not merely as a cleanliness drive, but as a continuing effort to improve administrative efficiency, grievance disposal, resource utilisation and citizen-facing governance.
