Honeymoon Murder Case: Victim’s Family To Move SC Against Sonam Raghuvanshi Bail
In a significant development in the widely followed honeymoon murder case involving Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi , the victim’s family has confirmed that it will approach the Supreme Court of India seeking cancellation of bail granted to his wife and prime accused Sonam Raghuvanshi , following the Meghalaya High Court’s decision to uphold her release.
The announcement comes a day after the Meghalaya High Court dismissed the state government’s plea challenging the bail granted by a lower court on April 27, 2026, thereby allowing Sonam Raghuvanshi to remain out of custody while trial proceedings continue. The High Court’s ruling reinforced earlier findings that procedural lapses by the investigating agency, particularly in communicating the grounds of arrest, had violated constitutional safeguards under Article 22(1) and provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita .
According to additional details emerging from court records and media reports, the bail was originally granted after the trial court observed inconsistencies in arrest documentation, including incorrect references to statutory provisions and incomplete intimation of arrest grounds. The High Court, while upholding bail, noted that such procedural deficiencies could not be ignored at the stage of bail consideration.
The Meghalaya Police have already filed a chargesheet running over 700 pages, alleging that the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in May 2025 was premeditated. Sonam Raghuvanshi , along with her alleged partner Raj Kushwaha and three others, remains an accused in the case.
Victim’s brother Vipin Raghuvanshi stated in Indore that the family is dissatisfied with the prosecution’s handling of the matter and will pursue the legal battle independently, including engaging a private counsel for the Supreme Court challenge.
Raja Raghuvanshi , an Indore-based businessman, had married Sonam on May 11, 2025. The couple travelled to Meghalaya on May 20 for their honeymoon. Sonam went missing on May 23, and Raja’s body was later recovered from a deep gorge near a waterfall in the Sohra region of East Khasi Hills.
