Hong Kong trader posts 252% gain, plans global expansion of investor education business

Hong Kong-based trader Law Wai-Sum , known professionally as J Law, has posted a second consecutive year of outsized gains in the United States Investing Championship and is now preparing to expand his investment education business to international markets.

Law recorded a 252.3% return in 2025 , following a 353.9% gain in 2024 , securing first place for the second straight year in the Money Manager Verified Ratings division, which requires a minimum starting capital of $1 million. His cumulative return over the two-year period reached 1,499% , far exceeding the broader U.S. market’s performance during the same timeframe.

Founded in 1983, the annual championship tracks verified real-money accounts across several categories and publishes audited performance rankings. Organizers said 579 participants entered the 2025 competition.

In an interview, Law attributed his results to disciplined execution and risk management rather than reliance on a single trading formula. “Most people look for a magic strategy,” he said. “What makes performance repeatable is a process that minimizes mistakes and keeps risk control at the center.”

Law outlined three principles he believes individual investors can adopt: trading less frequently to reduce execution errors and transaction costs; adapting proven frameworks to personal time and risk constraints; and adjusting tactics as market conditions evolve. He added that emotional decision-making, rather than time zone differences, poses the greatest challenge for traders, even as he operates in U.S. markets from Asia.

Following his championship performance, Law said he plans to expand his investor education platform, JLawStock , from Singapore into global markets. The initiative will include English-language educational materials and structured analytical frameworks aimed at investors in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

JLawStock focuses on professional trading techniques, discipline, and long-term market participation. Its programs have attracted retail traders, financial influencers and fund managers. “I want to raise the standard of investment education,” Law said. “Giving investors a professional-grade process is my next mission.”
