A journey that began with the hope of healing ended in heartbreaking tragedy after a 13-year-old girl from Ethiopia died aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight while travelling to Hyderabad for cancer treatment.

According to police, the teenager had been battling cancer for the past three years and was being brought to Hyderabad for medical care. However, she passed away while the aircraft was still in transit, before it could reach its destination.

After the flight landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport around 1 am on Saturday , airport authorities immediately shifted the girl to a health facility on the airport premises. Doctors examined her and confirmed that she had already died during the flight.

The tragic incident has cast a shadow over what was meant to be a journey of hope. Hyderabad has long been recognised as a major destination for advanced medical treatment, attracting patients from across India and several other countries, including those seeking specialised cancer care.

The young girl's death serves as a poignant reminder of the devastating impact of serious illnesses and the uncertainty faced by families who travel long distances in search of life-saving treatment.
