According to police officials, the accident took place around 4 am when the bus, travelling from Rajasthan to Surat , slammed into the rear of the truck that had been stationed on the roadside. The truck driver had reportedly halted the vehicle to inspect tyre pressure when the speeding bus crashed into it with tremendous force.
The impact was so severe that the front portion of the luxury bus was completely mangled, trapping several passengers inside. Emergency responders rushed to the scene soon after receiving information about the collision and launched an extensive rescue operation .
Vadodara District Superintendent of Police Sushil Agrawal said six people lost their lives in the accident, while around 20 others sustained injuries. The injured passengers were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals, where they are undergoing treatment.
Authorities said a majority of the passengers travelling in the bus were residents of Rajasthan . Given the extensive damage to the vehicle and the complexity of the rescue effort, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were also deployed to assist local police and emergency personnel.
The devastating crash once again highlighted the dangers of high-speed highway travel , particularly during pre-dawn hours when visibility and driver alertness can be compromised.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the crash. Officials are examining all possible factors, including vehicle speed and road conditions, while efforts continue to identify all the victims and provide support to affected families.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the region, with authorities urging motorists to follow road safety norms and exercise caution while travelling on highways.
