‘How Long Will This Atrocity Continue?’ Mamata Targets BJP After Office Attack

Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Thursday turned the alleged vandalism at her party’s Camac Street office into a direct political challenge to the BJP, warning that she would travel to New Delhi and hold dharnas outside the residences of BJP leaders if what she described as atrocities against her party continued.

In a combative Facebook Live, Banerjee accused BJP-backed “goons” of storming the TMC office in the early hours, assaulting party workers and taking away documents and electronic equipment. She also questioned the role of the Kolkata Police, alleging that the attackers acted with the police being “taken in confidence”.

“If these atrocities on the TMC don’t stop, I will go to Delhi and sit on a dharna outside the homes of BJP leaders,” Banerjee said, calling for a democratic movement beyond West Bengal.

Her remarks came hours after TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee alleged that armed men entered his Camac Street office around 4.30 am and vandalised the premises. He shared purported CCTV footage showing masked and helmeted men leaving with television sets, a printer and other electronic equipment.

The TMC claimed that several items, including an air purifier, printer and television sets, were taken away and that four party workers were assaulted. Six people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Banerjee also criticised the police, particularly the Shakespeare Sarani police station, alleging that officers failed to prevent the attack. She accused the BJP of pursuing a broader campaign of political intimidation, claiming that more than 4,000 TMC offices had been captured and numerous FIRs filed against party workers.

The BJP has denied involvement. BJP MLA Sajal Ghosh dismissed the allegations and claimed the incident was “staged”. The confrontation comes amid fresh political tensions in Kolkata, including rival demonstrations around Jadavpur University. Banerjee also accused the BJP of “hooliganism” at the university and criticised the alleged use of central forces.

She further claimed that her Z-plus security cover had been withdrawn, rejecting assertions that she continued to receive such protection.
