Hyderabad Police on Thursday busted an interstate drug trafficking racket and seized 908.41 kg of ganja worth Rs 2.7 crore. Three people were arrested in connection with the case.
The police intercepted a lorry at Bandlaguda on October 22. The vehicle was carrying the large consignment of ganja, and the driver along with his two friends were taken into custody.
During questioning, the trio revealed that they were associates of a main transporter. Following his instructions, they had traveled to Kalimela in Odisha to load the ganja and were transporting it to a receiver in Nashik, Maharashtra.
The seized drugs, sourced from the remote forests of Kalimela, were intended for distribution across multiple locations in Maharashtra.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East Zone) S Chaitanya Kumar said the police are continuing their investigation to identify other members of the syndicate. They are believed to be operating in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra and are currently absconding. Authorities are also working to trace the entire supply chain of the drugs.
