Hyderabad Airport Bomb Threat Turns Out to Be Hoax
A bomb threat email targeting a Gulf Air flight GF-274 from Bahrain triggered a security alert at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad late Wednesday night, but authorities later confirmed the threat to be a hoax after extensive checks. The email, received by the airport’s customer support team from an unidentified sender, carried a subject line warning of a blast at the airport terminals timed with the arrival of the Bahrain-origin flight.
By the time officials reviewed the message, the flight had already landed safely . However, security agencies immediately activated standard emergency protocols . The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) , along with airport authorities and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) , conducted thorough inspections of the aircraft, passenger areas, baggage sections and airport terminals. After comprehensive searches yielded no suspicious objects or explosive materials, the threat was officially declared a false alarm .
Passengers were deplaned without incident, and airport operations continued normally. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the origin of the email and identify those responsible. Officials reiterated that aviation security procedures require every threat to be treated with seriousness to ensure passenger safety .
The incident underscores the challenges posed by hoax threats to critical infrastructure, as such false warnings strain security resources and create unnecessary anxiety among travellers. Authorities warned that those behind such acts face stringent legal action under relevant laws.
