Hyderabad Drug Peddler Held After Injuring Three Policemen in Car Chase

A special anti-narcotics operation in Hyderabad took a dramatic turn after an alleged drug peddler rammed his car into police personnel while attempting to evade arrest, leaving three officers injured before being captured following a high-speed chase through the city. The incident highlights the increasing risks faced by law enforcement as Hyderabad Police intensify their crackdown on the city's narcotics network.

The incident unfolded on Sunday when the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) received credible intelligence that a suspected drug peddler would be arriving in the Abids area. Acting on the tip-off, a special team laid surveillance and moved in to apprehend the suspect.

As officers attempted to intercept him, the accused allegedly accelerated his vehicle and deliberately drove into a constable on duty before fleeing the scene. The injured constable sustained a fractured leg and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Undeterred by the attack, the police launched a cinematic chase that stretched from Abids to Afzalgunj. When officers tried to block the vehicle near Afzalgunj, the suspect allegedly drove towards them once again in another bid to escape. An inspector and another constable suffered minor injuries during the confrontation.

Police eventually managed to stop the vehicle and arrest the accused after a coordinated operation. Officials said the suspect is being interrogated to uncover the drug supply chain, identify his associates, and determine whether he is linked to a larger narcotics network operating in the city.

Separate cases have been registered at the Abids and Afzalgunj Police Stations. The accused has been booked under charges including attempt to murder, assaulting and obstructing public servants while on duty, along with other relevant provisions of law.

The incident comes amid an intensified campaign by H-NEW, a specialised unit established by Hyderabad Police to dismantle drug trafficking networks through intelligence-based operations. Over the past few years, the unit has carried out several major raids, leading to the arrest of peddlers, seizure of narcotics, and identification of consumers across the city. Officials reiterated that attacks on police personnel will be dealt with firmly and warned that those involved in the illegal drug trade will face stringent legal action as the investigation into the wider network continues.
