Hyderabad Gears Up For Annual Fish Prasadam Distribution, Extensive Arrangements In Place

The stage is set for the annual distribution of the widely known Fish Prasadam in Hyderabad, an event that draws thousands of asthma sufferers from across India and abroad every year. The distribution will begin at 9 pm on June 8 at the Nampally Exhibition Grounds , where elaborate arrangements have been made to accommodate the expected influx of visitors.

The event, which has a history spanning nearly 179 years , is traditionally organised during the Mrigashira Karthi period and is associated with a belief that the prasadam helps alleviate asthma and certain respiratory ailments. The distribution is offered free of cost and continues to attract people from diverse regions seeking the traditional remedy.

As part of the customary preparations, organisers will perform the well worship ritual at Doodh Bowli on Sunday, a practice that has long been associated with the event's traditions. The organisers have also announced that a jaggery-based prasadam will be made available for individuals who do not consume fish or prefer a vegetarian alternative.

Given the scale of the gathering, the state government has undertaken extensive measures to ensure smooth conduct of the programme. Officials have been working on crowd management, public amenities and transportation arrangements to facilitate the movement of visitors.

To review the preparations, Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar , who is in charge of Hyderabad affairs, inspected the arrangements at the Exhibition Grounds along with senior officials. The review focused on key facilities including queue management systems, drinking water supply, sanitation and transport connectivity.

The inspection was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Anil Kumar Yadav , Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Minister Vakiti Srihari , Hyderabad District Collector Priyanka , Fisheries Corporation Chairman Mettu Sai Kumar , and other officials. The team assessed on-ground readiness and issued directions to ensure that visitors are provided with adequate facilities throughout the event.

Authorities expect large crowds over the course of the distribution and have appealed to attendees to follow official guidelines and cooperate with volunteers and personnel deployed at the venue.
