Anshul Kuncha , 28, son of K. Srinivas and Neelimala of Gundlapochampally in Telangana's Medchal-Malkajgiri district, arrived in the United States in 2023 chasing a dream that millions of young Indians recognise, a better career, a foreign degree, and eventually a life worth building. He enrolled for a Master's in Business Administration at Temple University in Philadelphia and secured a full-time position as an Analyst at a multinational company to support himself. On weekends, to cover his tuition and living costs, he delivered pizzas for Pete's Pizza . He was, by every measure, doing everything right.

Shortly after 12.30 a.m. on June 6 , Anshul was assigned a delivery to an apartment at the Raymond Rosen Homes complex on Edgley Street in North Philadelphia, an address that investigators later confirmed was a vacant unit . Surveillance footage from Philadelphia Housing Authority cameras captured him walking toward the building with the pizza boxes, trailed by two individuals in dark clothing, one carrying a backpack . He completed the delivery. He stepped outside. He never came back.

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small confirmed that three spent shell casings were recovered inches from the victim, indicating the shooter or shooters were standing extremely close when the trigger was pulled. The three pizza boxes and delivery bag were found untouched inside the vacant apartment. Nothing was stolen. His vehicle was parked nearby, the pizza warmer still inside .

His sister Tanvi has been relentless in her grief and her demand for answers. "It was a trap. It was to kill him. They took my brother and killed him," she told reporters. She also revealed that Anshul had previously been robbed in the US, losing his phone, chain, and cash, but had never faced a life-threatening situation before. She urged Indian families to reconsider sending their children to the US, saying it was simply not safe for Indians living there.

Anshul is, devastatingly, the second Pete's Pizza delivery driver to be killed in recent years, a 29-year-old was gunned down outside the same store in 2024. Before him, Chandrasekhar Pole from Hyderabad was shot dead at a Texas gas station in 2025. The pattern is too consistent and too deadly to keep calling coincidental.

Philadelphia authorities have announced a $20,000 reward for information leading to arrests. Investigators are tracing the phone number used to place the fake order and reviewing all available surveillance footage. The Indian Consulate in New York has confirmed Anshul's death and is coordinating with his family on repatriation. His father has appealed to the MEA to bring his son home without further delay.

Anshul Kuncha came to America to earn a degree. He deserved to come home with one.
